Carmel Borg is Associate Professor of Curriculum Studies and Sociology of Education<BR>at the Department of Education Studies, Faculty of Education, University of Malta,<BR>Malta. He is former Dean of the Faculty of Education.<BR>Prof Borg teaches in the areas of Curriculum Studies, Critical Pedagogy, Sociology of<BR>Education, Parental Involvement in Education, Adult Education and Community<BR>Development. He has researched and published extensively in the aforementioned areas.<BR>Prof. Borg is Secretary General of the Mediterranean Society of Comparative Education<BR>(MESCE). As Secretary General, he has established MESCE as one of the most dynamic<BR>comparative education societies within the World Council of Comparative Education<BR>Societies. He has co-convened two international conferences on behalf of MESCE ? the<BR>2008 International MESCE Conference in Malta and the 2009 International MESCE<BR>Conference in Morocco. He will also co-convene the 2011 International MESCE<BR>Conference (www.mesce.org).<BR>Prof. Borg has lectured internationally (Berlin, Copenhagen, Istanbul, Milan, Rome,<BR>Mainz, Frankfurt, Hamburg, London, Leicester, among other venues) and is an external<BR>expert of the European Commission. He is also involved in several European and<BR>international projects, networks and research consortia.<BR>Prof. Borg sits on editorial advisory boards of several international journals and is editor<BR>of the Maltese Review of Educational Research (MRER), formerly known as the Maltese<BR>Journal of Education Research (JMER).<BR>As a public intellectual, Prof Borg contributes to local newspapers, appears regularly on<BR>television programmes and produces his own radio programmes. He is also involved in<BR>community projects.<BR>
